The MGAA Chrysalis group has been set up to represent the voice and interests of the next generation within the MGA community and launched on 7 February 2018 with an event on Blockchain hosted in partnership with Market Minds.

The goal is to enable the sector to develop more opportunities and action change through greater collaboration amongst those in the sector.

MGAA Chrysalis aims to:

  • Provide a networking platform through the organisation for individuals to share insight, knowledge and expertise at educational and social events
  • Promote training and education opportunities
  • Encourage entrepreneurship through mentoring
  • Create a forum for topical comment

The group will be represented at the MGAA Conference on 12 July 2018.

Omar Bashir
Towergate

Omar started his career in insurance in 2014 working for Arthur J. Gallagher in its MGA division. This included building the strategy to bring together all its MGAs to create one of the UK’s largest MGAs – Pen Underwriting. He then worked for Alesco, its specialist energy and construction broker, assisting in the structuring of complex insurance programmes for large global energy companies.
 
In 2016 he joined The Ardonagh Group and now works in Mergers and Acquisitions reporting directly to the Group Chief Operating Officer. The role spans from initial offer through to due diligence and finishes at the point integration is complete.

Matthew Bestwick
UK General Insurance

Matthew is a financial auditor by training, joining Mazars in 2007. Following completion of the ICAEW qualification as a Chartered Accountant in 2011 he took the plunge into industry joining UK General Insurance. Progressing in the finance division he is now the financial controller managing a team of individuals responsible for financial covenants, financial integrity, banking and payroll.

Instrumental in securing external funding for UK General, assisting in the restructure of legal entities within the group and leading the annual production of financial statements he is keen to bring his financial acumen, managing skills and a different angle to the newly established MGAA sub-committee.

Helena Clarke
Dual Group

Helena is one of DUAL’s Compliance Business Partners, where hermain focus is on Financial Crime. Her main interests within the Insurance Industry are the impact of Cybercrime and how Sanctions affect our markets.
 
Amongst others, Helena believes men’s mental health, combined with the subject of gender equality in our ever increasing male dominated industry, are key focal points today.  In the past 5 years she has worked both in the London and Lloyd’s Insurance market as well as abroad in South America; Colombia.  

Helena's personal interests include foreign languages and sports as a trilinguist and triathlete.

Charlotte Dartford is a Business Development Manager at BLM, the leading risk and insurance law business in the UK and Ireland and one of the founder members of the MGAA.

Within the business, Charlotte supports the development and growth of the Lloyd’s and London Market sector and BLM’s international presence.

Charlotte has been working in the insurance market for 10 years working for a major international insurer and insurance law firms both in the UK and Middle East.

Alexia Eliades
CFC Underwriting

Alexia is a Claims Adjuster for the largest MGA within the London market, CFC Underwriting Ltd.  Alexia leads the UK Medical Malpractice claims and also specialises in US/Canadian Healthcare.

Alexia is a qualified lawyer of England and Wales and spent many years in private practice handling large loss and high profile sensitive cases within the medical arena.

Aside from her work commitments, Alexia is on the Governing Board of an Independent school in London and was appointed part of the Compliance and Health, Mitigation and Risk sub-board teams.  Alexia is also an Official Trained Representative of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and believes very strongly in defending the medical profession and in promoting awareness of mental health from early years.  Alexia is also fluent in Greek.

Daniel has 15 years insurance industry experience starting out as a broker before moving into Accident & Health Underwriting in 2008.

Currently the Senior Accident & Health Underwriter at Nexus managing the underwriting team. Previous companies have included ACE and Aviva where Daniel was underwriter for Corporate and Affinity A&H risks.

Kajal Pankhania
White Oak Underwriting Agency

Kaj provides ‘open-door’ compliance support to the White Oak team and has been with the company since 2010. Her day-to-day role involves building a strong compliance foundation internally and liaising with carriers, brokers and TPAs to ensure that regulatory obligations are met.

Having studied Law at University, she brings a wealth of knowledge and skills regarding interpreting regulations and their enforcement and will be able to use the Chrysalis forum as a soundboard for topical matters.

Since joining White Oak, Kaj has completed her Compliance Diploma and is currently studying towards her CII qualifications. She will utilise her experience as the Training Officer for White Oak when driving forward relations with Chrysalis and the CII to ensure Chrysalis’ and the market’s objectives are met.

John Small is a Solicitor who advises insurance businesses on corporate, commercial and regulatory matters. John previously worked at a leading regional firm where he managed a broad spectrum of commercial matters and he brings an understanding of the commercial and regulatory underpinnings necessary for success, along with hands on experience with entrepreneurs.

John has a deep interest in the synergy between financial services and technology and a particular focus on insurtech. In addition to his legal qualifications, he holds MSc degrees from the University of Edinburgh and University College London and is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

Gemma's insurance career has been spent entirely within the MGA sphere working for a number of organisations through a variety of different lenses; underwriting, operations, and strategic change. In her current role as Structured Portfolio Solutions Director, she is focused on the delivery and continuous improvement of MGA solutions, working across a diverse product range, analysing performance, and finding ways to expand and improve Aon's portfolio.

Carly works within the Operations team at Pioneer as a Senior Premium & Claims Technician supporting various Lloyds & non Lloyds teams across the company with Premium, Claims & Credit control.

Carly joined Pioneer in December 2012, prior to this Carly started her insurance career in August 2011 as a Trainee Claims Broker on the Property & Casualty Team at BMS. Carly is ACII qualified and has a BSc degree in Mathematics from Brighton University.
