The Future of Motor Indemnity in a Post-Brexit Britain

Andrew Baker, Partner at Horwich Farrelly will be looking at the the current contentious issues in relation to motor indemnity, including Vnuk. Andrew will also review the changes to the MIB’s approach regarding disputes as to Article 75 status, including issues around valid cancellation, and he will discuss the challenges around possible reform of the Road Traffic Act 1988, particularly by reference to the introduction of autonomous vehicles.

By the end of the event, delegates will be able to:

  1. Summarise current contentious issues in relation to motor indemnity including Vnuk and understand where people are going wrong in arguing such points at present.
  2. Describe changes to the MIB’s approach regarding disputes as to Article 75 status including issues around valid cancellation.
  3. Outline and understand the challenges around possible reform of the Road Traffic Act 1988 particularly by reference to the introduction of autonomous vehicles.  This will include issues around whether reform is a good thing and if there is reform, what changes could be made.

Andrew Baker, Partner
Andrew Baker has spent 25 years working in the fields of insurance and personal injury. He focuses on large loss and indemnity work, principally in the field of motor cases for which he is a market leading individual. He has significant experience of preparing cases to be put before the Technical Committee of the Motor Insurers’ Bureau. He has been involved in helping shape legislation. He works with insurers to improve policy wordings. Andrew has taught civil litigation and regularly provides training to clients on motor indemnity and other technical issues arising in motor defence work.
