29 JUNE 2022

It has long been held that the strength of MGAs is their agility and flexibility and it is perhaps that which has led to their survival and growth during these difficult times and hard market conditions.

As experts in their field, MGAs have the knowledge and technical understanding to evaluate the market and quickly react to changes that may impact the policies they write. They add real in-depth insight for insurers into often specialist niche areas.

MGAs need to maximise these positive attributes to continue to be competitive and succeed.

Seize the opportunity is about taking advantage of opportunities when they present themselves to you as well as creating opportunities by adopting innovative practices.

The MGAA Conference 2022 draws on key themes that are crucial issues in the MGA Community today including: Claims, Compliance& regulation, Lloyd's versus the Company market and D & I to name but a few!

Come along and join the conversation.

Head to Head - Lloyd's Vs the Company market as capacity for MGAs

13:30 - 12:15 | Enterprise suite

With the emergence of new capital vehicles seeking to support new and existing MGAs the argument around what is the most attraction home for capacity continues to rage. The Company market has certainly raised its proposition and access over the past few years whilst Lloyds continues to promote itself as experts for niche and specialist business.

The Panel represented by both Lloyds and the Company market will both promote and explain their respective merits as to why they should be the first port of call for MGAs, whilst our experienced MGA representative, who enjoys vast experience of both markets, will provide valuable insight as to which current market has the edge !!

Compliance - The Elephant in the Room

14:00 - 14:45 | Enterprise suite

Effective oversight, governance and compliance is a key pillar in all parts of the MGA ecosystem and each stakeholder plays a key part in ultimately ensuring the right customer outcomes - however has the dial now shifted to where regulation is now an inhibitor to innovation, increasing costs to all businesses with no visible demonstration of value and does each stakeholder understand their roles and responsibilities in the increasing avalanche of new regulatory reforms ?

Our expert panel will discuss these themes and challenges from their perspective as stakeholders in the MGA community.

The Claims Conundrum – Partnership or Disconnect?

15:00 - 15:45 | Enterprise suite

The relationship between Insurers, MGA’s and Claim TPA’s has never been more important in delivering the right customer outcomes, loss ratio control and oversight of indemnity spend.

A Clyde & Co survey in 2021 suggested a widening disconnect between these stakeholders which could potentially undermine their core objectives and this panel, suitably represented, will discuss what the key drivers, challenges and potential solutions can be implemented to ensure claims delivery, through this typical MGA model, is best in class.

13:30–13:45 INTERACT SUITE

mgaa conference

The insurance industry has come some way in tackling Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the sector but there is no doubt that room for further improvement and positive change remains.

For many of today's young workforce, a workplace culture underpinned by equality, diversity and inclusion is a key factor for them choosing a place of work and subsequently, how long they stay at a company for. This is why the MGAA Next Gen group feels strongly that Equality, Diversity and Inclusion should be firmly at the top of a company's agenda. However, as a recent report by Deloitte highlights, there often remains a disconnect between the expectations of today’s workforce and inclusion in organisations. Despite implementing specific programmes and training, the fact remains that companies are struggling to gain traction so what practical steps can the insurance industry be taking right now to implement real change in a bid to attract and retain the next generation of talent?

Join the MGAA Next Gen group as they host a panel discussion including Mark Lomas, Head of Culture at Lloyd's, Ben Smyth, CEO & Founder of MGA Arma Karma and Bal Mahil, Head of Distribution Operations at AXA XL, who will offer a fresh perspective on the topic and the potential to learn best practices. The session aims to inform and spark debate through the eyes of the next generation workforce, giving MGAA members the necessary tools and mindset to meet the demands of this critical sector of the workforce.

Keynote - David Howden

10:30 - 11:15

David Howden founded Howden Group in 1994 as a specialist D&O broker, and from its modest beginnings reaching into Europe, Howden Group is now one of the largest insurance intermediary groups in the world and the largest outside the US, with approaching £1.5bn in revenues, managing premiums of more than £12bn. It has been challenging the status quo for its clients for nearly three decades.

The Group is the fifth largest employee-owned business in the UK, with 6000 employees operating from more than 150 locations across the UK and Ireland, including through the Howden, A-Plan, Endsleigh and Aston Lark brands.
