Melissa Collett is Professional Standards Director at the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), leading its professional standards, ethics and conduct activity as a united profession across insurance and financial planning. She is also responsible for the professional body’s legal affairs, risk management, disciplinary matters and governance. She is keen to raise awareness of best practice and drive ethical behaviour through engagement with the profession and external stakeholders. 

Melissa has an extensive background in consumer and legal issues. She spent over a decade at the Financial Ombudsman Service, was a Director at Fairer Finance and sits as a Tribunal Judge. She is also a qualified solicitor, specialising in insurance law at Hogan Lovells. She is a frequent speaker at conference and events, sits on judging panels, and is the author of numerous articles and publications on consumer law subjects.

Mark Hutchinson is Membership Director for the Chartered Insurance Institute, where he leads a team dedicated to supporting members in demonstrating their commitment to professional standards and achieving their career aspirations.

Mark has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector, mainly in strategic marketing and proposition development. Prior to joining the CII Mark held senior marketing roles with AIG, Close Brothers, and Foresters.

Roshan is well travelled, including global hotspots and provides a balanced view from a client and carrier perspective to reach the best solutions available. He is married with two children, enjoys running, various fitness pursuits and believes there is always a better way.

The insurance industry has come some way in tackling Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the sector but there is no doubt that room for further improvement and positive change remains.

For many of today's young workforce, a workplace culture underpinned by equality, diversity and inclusion is a key factor for them choosing a place of work and subsequently, how long they stay at a company for. This is why the MGAA Next Gen group feels strongly that Equality, Diversity and Inclusion should be firmly at the top of a company's agenda. However, as a recent report by Deloitte highlights, there often remains a disconnect between the expectations of today’s workforce and inclusion in organisations. Despite implementing specific programmes and training, the fact remains that companies are struggling to gain traction so what practical steps can the insurance industry be taking right now to implement real change in a bid to attract and retain the next generation of talent?

Join the MGAA Next Gen group as they host a panel discussion including Mark Lomas, Head of Culture at Lloyd's, Ben Smyth, CEO & Founder of MGA Arma Karma and Bal Mahil, Head of Distribution Operations at AXA XL, who will offer a fresh perspective on the topic and the potential to learn best practices. The session aims to inform and spark debate through the eyes of the next generation workforce, giving MGAA members the necessary tools and mindset to meet the demands of this critical sector of the workforce.

His love of horses has led him to re-establish Cornbury House Horse Trials during lockdown and to racecourses across the country in the hope of accessing the Winner’s Circle.

Celebrity Keynote – Victoria Pendleton

A British former track cyclist who specialised in the sprint, team sprint and keirin disciplines.

One of Great Britain's most successful female Olympians She is a former Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth champion. With two Olympic gold medals and one silver to her name.

After showing promise at 13, following graduating she became a fulltime cyclist. Victoria won one bronze and three silver medals in the British National Track Championships in 2001, while still a student. In 2002, she qualified for the England Commonwealth Games team, finishing fourth in the sprint. From that moment on she went from strength to strength. She represented Great Britain and England in international cycling competition, winning nine world titles including a record six in the individual sprint, dominating the event between 2005 and 2012. In 2008 she won the sprint in the Beijing Olympics, and in August 2012, at the Olympic Games in London Victoria won the gold medal in the keirin, as well as silver in the sprint whilst setting a new Olympic record of 10.724 seconds.This was Victoria's final competitive race as she retired from professional cycling after this race.

She was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2009 New Year Honours[5] and Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2013 New Year Honoursfor services to cycling.[6][7] As a gold medalist at European, World and Olympic level, Victoria is also a member of the European Cycling Union Hall of Fame.

Victoria didn’t stop there! Following her retirement from professional cycling, she left the track behind. She competed in Strictly Come Dancing and appeared in ITV’s Emmerdale marking the start of Tour de France in Yorkshire. Victoria then announced that she was returning to sport, but this time on a horse rather than bicycle. Victoria proved her versatility by competing in the 2015 Betfair Novice Flat Amateur Riders’ Handicap at Ripon riding Royal Etiquette. She worked her way through the novice ranks and rode at the prestigious Cheltenham Festival. She won her first race in 2016 before competing at the 2016 Foxhunter Chase, where she finished fifth.

As an advocate for positive female representation, she partnered with Clinique to inspire women across the country. Victoria went on to release her own of women’s bikes, a testament to her ongoing dedication to the sport she loves.

Dominating a male-orientated industry , with each win and achievement Victoria proved the power of female athletes.

Someone who categorically has seized the opportunities presented to her, Victoria has experienced the immense physical and psychological challenges faced by elite athletes, and the preparation and attitude needed to reach the top. She will reflect on her career highs and lows, the successes and mistakes, and what it takes to start all over again in a new sport.
